- Global Journeys: Stories from Study Abroad Alumni; 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Campus Commons 2201
- Learn more about Study Abroad opportunities at UNC from Education Abroad Staff and
Students. Light refreshments will be served.
- Geographies of Hope: An Evening with the "Superheroes of Sudan - NEW YORK TIMES FEATURED
6:00 pm, Campus Commons Performance Hall
- As feuding generals turned the Sudanese capital into a war zone, two university students
navigated a battered Toyota through the chaos and saved at least 60 people. Free snackes
and beverages will be provided

Tuesday November 19:
- Communicating Across Cultures: Guide to Avoiding Misunderstanding;
10:00 - 11:30 am, Campus Commons 2300
- This session explores effective communication with linguistically diverse individuals,
focusing on educational feedback and understanding communicative intent.
Presenters will share research and experiences working with international students,
highlighting common language errors, cultural impacts on English, and strategies to
anticipate and reduce miscommunication.
Free snacks and beverages are provided!
Wednesday November 20:
- Cultural Open Mic Night; 4:00 - 6:00 pm, Wilson Hall
- Experience the richness of cultures at our Cultural Open Mic Night! This unique event
invites students to share a part of their heritage and identity through poetry, storytelling,
and music. Whether performing a traditional piece, singing a song in their native
language, or reciting a poem that captures their experiences each student will offer
a glimpse into their world.
Join us for an inspiring evening of cultural expression, connection, and discovery
as we celebrate the diverse voices that make our community so vibrant.

Thursday November 21:
- Faculty/staff UNITE International Experience Workshop; 9:00 - 11:00 am,
Campus Commons 2300
- This workshop covers the challenges of U.S. transitions for international students,
immigrants, and refugees, with tips to reduce bias and improve cross-cultural communication
- International Student Experiences Research Presentation and Panel; 3:00 pm, Campus Commons 2201
- Graduate Student Katherine Drake's study explored international students' challenges,
views on U.S. counseling services, and their counseling experiences.
This presentation will share her findings, followed by a panel of international students
discussing their own experiences.
Free snacks and beverages are provided!
Friday November 22:
- Career Readiness and Belonging; 9:00 am, Virtual Zoom Session
- Overview for Center for Career Readiness services and discussion on helping navigate
belonging, exploring values, and highlighting transferable skills.
